Lord of the Flies reference.
ReplyDeleteok, so if you've read the lord of the flies, you will obviously recall the scene where Simon is killed. He is murdered by his now savage friends in a tribal "dance." Connect this to the lyrics "dance, (s)ucker, dance. He never had a chance."
"see 'em running for their lives" refers to ralph's final flight from the savages while the island is on fire.
"and now you lead the way" refers to Jack, the savage tribe leader, who slowly attempts to leech all the power as cheif from Ralph. though he succeeds, Jack is a corrupt ruler, completely ruthless.
"and now you steal away. take him out today" refers to Roger, the dark boy who kills Piggy and tortures Sam 'n Eric to join Jack's tribe. Roger represents death, and is very "furtive."
"and turning all against one. It's an art that's hard to teach." This line comes from the slow turn of power from Ralph to Jack. At first, all are with Ralph but the choir members. Eventually, though, Ralph is all alone.
and if you've never read the book and don't understand any of this, sorry i ruined it for you. it's a great book, though. read it anyway.

ReplyDeletewhy, thanks. we read lord of the flies for my english class this year (i'm a freshman) and one day i heard this song on the radio while simultaneously reading the book. it just sorta clicked that this was what the lyrics meant.
